週末に山口の旅館に泊まった。最寄の空港から車で約1時間半の静かな山間にある小さな温泉旅館だ。硫黄の香りがするたっぷりなお湯につかり、部屋のコタツでのんびりする。華美ではなく三代目のご主人と奥さまの配慮が行き届いている。しかもお料理が素晴らしかった。脂ののったサバ寿司や竹の子などの前菜8品に鴨のメインが2品、そしてデザート。地元の野菜をはじめとする食材に味わいのある器、そして山口の地酒。まさにオーベルジュ。日本でもこういう料理が楽しめる宿が増えてきたのは本当に嬉しい。
I stayed at a ryokan in Yamaguchi on this weekend. It was a small hot-spring ryokan in a quiet mountain, about an hour and a half drive from the nearest airport. I enjoyed soak in the hot water with the scent of sulfur and relaxed with the kotatsu in the room. It was not gorgeous, but care is well taken by the third generation master and his wife. And the food was great. 8 appetizers such as fat-laden mackerel sushi and bamboo shoots, 2 main dishes with duck, and dessert. It was also good dishes with local vegetables and other ingredients, and local sake from Yamaguchi. It was just an auberge. I'm really happy that there are more hotels where I can enjoy such dishes in Japan.
