革命前夜｜The Night before Revolution｜2022/05/19

「ザ・フード」というアメリカの巨大食品メーカーのドキュメンタリー番組を見た。産業革命で都市に人口が集まった頃、当時の食は食べてお腹を壊すのが当たり前というような状態だった。都市部の人口にいかに大量に、保存ができ、安全な食べ物を供給するかという課題があり、ケチャップのハインツやコーンフレークのケロッグが誕生した。産業革命の中で、こういったフード革命もあったというのがとても興味深かった。人々のライフスタイルが変わるとそれを支える産業のあり方も変わる。ウイズコロナの時代が始まり、今度はどのような革命がうまれるのだろうか。（絵と文：サカキテツ朗）

I watched a documentary program about a giant American food maker called "The Food". When the population gathered in the city due to the Industrial Revolution, it was natural to eat food and get food poisoning. The challenge of supplying large quantities of conservative and safe food to the urban population led to the birth of ketchup Heinz and cornflakes Kellogg's.
