City × Airport|2022/05/18
I took up the airport in the Taisho University class "Factorization of the City". It is Miyako Shimojishima Airport, which opened in 2019. In order to differentiate from the existing Miyako Airport, the terminal building itself is like a resort hotel, with tourists as the target. It's an airport that makes me want to drink beer. The concept was interesting, and the economic aspect was also interesting. It was said that if the number of flights increases by one every day, it will have an economic effect of billions of yen a year. However, while such macro activities are important, micro activities such as new tourism development, accommodation facilities, and public relations are also indispensable. Moreover, it seems necessary to steadily continue efforts at various layers. It's not enough to just build an airport, it's more important to do what seems to be ancillary. -Text and illustration by Ted Sakaki
