"Fish, Cat, Dog" My 2-year and 10-month-old daughter is pointing to illustrations of animals and speaking English words. She has just had a trial lesson at a neighborhood English conversation class. I thought her pronunciation sounded like a native speaker. She told me to say "Puppy, let's try," and I tried saying "fish, cat, dog," with my lips and bottom in an English mouth. My daughter happily repeated, "Fish, cat, dog," as I did. But her pronunciation is getting worse and worse. The more I pronounce the words, the more they sound like "hish, kat, dogu. Unfortunately, for the sake of her pronunciation, it would be better to keep quiet. -Text and illustration by Ted Sakaki
