もう一回｜One More Time

２歳６ヶ月のムスメの相手は疲れる。絵本を読んであげたり、ブロックで遊んだり、ブランコに乗ったりすることだ。最初はこちらも興味もあるのでよいのだが、「もう１回」となると苦行が始まる。もう１回で終われば良いのだが、もう１回、もう１回と永遠と繰り返す。同じことを何度も何度もさせられることほど精神的にも肉体的にも辛いことはない。教育的には何度も繰り返すことは重要で、本人がやりたいのだから付き合ってあげればよいのだと思うが、へとへとになってしまう。子供の素養を伸ばすための知育などに興味があったけれど、まず教育する側の忍耐力を伸ばすことから始まるのかもしれないなぁ。（絵と文：サカキテツ朗）

Dealing with my 2 year and 6 month daughter is exhausting. I read picture books to her, play with blocks, and ride on the swing. At first, it is fine because I am interested in these activities, but when she asks for "one more time," the hard work begins. It would be fine if she could finish one more time, but she keeps doing it again, and again, and again, forever. There is nothing more mentally and physically painful than being forced to do the same thing over and over again. I understand it is important from an educational standpoint to repeat the same thing over and over again. It is fine to accompany the child because she wants to do it, but it is exhausting. I was interested in intellectual education to develop the child's ability, but I think the first step is to develop the patience of the educator. -Text and illustration by Ted Sakaki
