Lock of the Toilet

The doorknob of the toilet in my house is broken. The screw must have loosened, and the cover had also come off. With a screwdriver in hand, I began repairing it lightly, thinking that tightening the screws would fix the problem. I removed the doorknob, thinking, "I see how it's structured." I started to assemble it again. What? It doesn't fit. I thought I was doing the same thing I did when I removed the door knob, but it didn't fit. Eventually, there is a clunking sound and the screw comes off from an unexpected place. If I were a science major, I would probably figure out the structure of the doorknob and fix it, but alas, I am a humanities major. I can only fix it like a puzzle. It took me an hour of struggle. The doorknob was somehow made to work. But instead, the lock would not work. The days began when I had to prevent my two-year-old daughter from opening the door with fun, while closing the doorknob with one hand. -Text and illustration by Ted Sakaki
