誕生日の意味｜The Meaning of Birthday

58年前、母の陣痛が始まるが前置胎盤で緊急手術。幸い母子ともに無事だった。祖父の車で病院にすぐに行けたのがよかったのだが、数日後のアメリカ出張と重なっていたらボクはこの世にいなかったかもしれない。そんな話を散々聞かされていたが、へーって感じだった。しかし１週間前にムスコの出産に立ち合い、出産の大変さを目の当たりにした。誕生日はおめでとうと自分がお祝いされるものとばかり思っていたが、親や周囲の人に感謝する日だと実感した。今さらですが、本当にありがとうございました。（絵と文：サカキテツ朗）

Fifty-eight years ago, my mother went into labor but had emergency surgery due to placenta previa. Fortunately, both mother and child survived. I was lucky that my grandfather's car took her to the hospital right away, but if it had coincided with his business trip to the U.S. a few days later, I might not have been here on earth. I had been told about this story so many times, but I was just like "huh". But a week ago, I witnessed the birth of my son and saw firsthand how difficult it is to give birth. I had always thought of birthdays as something to be celebrated with congratulations, but I realized that it was a day to thank my parents and those around me.
