Front-Riding or Rear-Riding

I bought an electric bicycle for the birth of my son. Because I would eventually need it to take my son and daughter to and from daycare. When I saw mothers and fathers with their children riding in front and behind them on the street, I thought, "Wow, what a great deal!" When I went to a bicycle shop, I was told that there are two types of bicycles: front-riding and rear-riding, depending on which chair is attached by default to accommodate the child. If you want to carry two people, another chair is installed as an option. I test-ride the car thinking that they are the same since they both have two chairs attached. When I tried riding with a child-type doll on it, I found that riding in the front and in the back are completely different. When only one person is on the bicycle, either one is fine, but when two people are on it, the front-riding one gives an overwhelming sense of stability and smoothness in pedaling. The difference in the design concept of front-riding and rear-riding may not look much different, but the ease of use is completely different. -Text and illustration by Ted Sakaki
