City × Festival

Mr. Kawasugi of JTB Communication Design was our guest for a class at Taisho University. He has been carrying the mikoshi at the Sanja Festival since he was a child, and now his daughter looks forward to it as well. This time, I also had the opportunity to attend a community meeting, where people ranging in age from their 20s to their 70s spoke not only of their passion but also of their attachment to the community. Some have moved to Asakusa as adults to participate. Once again, I realized that festivals are the key to enlivening the local community. The three elements of "City x Festival" that I felt were "unusual," "role," and "once a year". Not only local issues, but also the fireworks-like elements of festivals energize the community, and the sense of belonging and comfort is heightened by the roles of the members. However, too many events can get stuck in a rut, so I guess frequency, such as once a year, is also an important element.
