Office after Free Address

We visited Kokuyo's office in Shinagawa. Based on the concept of an office open to the city, the café and free space on the first floor are open to the public and events are held there. It was interesting to see how the office space on the upper floor is divided by activities such as "gather," "nurture," and "make progress. This allows people to choose where they want to work depending on the situation, such as when they want to brainstorm and diffuse ideas, or when they are on deadline and want to stay indoors. In addition, the Fresher's Zone is a place where employees up to their third year in the company can gather in one place to cooperate with each other and receive advice from their seniors. The use of each area is monitored by location data, and improvements are made according to the frequency of use. The free-address system, which only changes the hardware, has many issues such as reduced communication. Here, it seems that these issues are being reconfigured with detailed software elements. I have a feeling that the fixed concept of an office will gradually change. -Text and illustration by Ted Sakaki
