最近手元が見えにくくなった。すでに老眼で夜暗いバーの小さな文字のオシャレなメニューはご遠慮いただきたいという年齢だ。幸い遠近両用のコンタクトレンズで不便はなかったのだが、老眼が進行したらしく見えにくくなった。検眼をしてレンズを合わせてみると、左眼はよく見えるのだが、右眼は見えない。検査の人にきくと、遠くは利き眼の右眼に合わせ、近くは左眼に合わせているという。片眼ではなく両眼で見るといいですよとアドバイス。なるほど若い頃のように近くも遠くもパキッと見えるのではなく、多少ぼんやりした方が生きやすいですよということかもしれない。（絵と文：サカキテツ朗）

When I went to an optometrist and matched the lens, I could see the left eye well, but not the right eye. According to the staff of inspecting, the distance was adjusted to the right eye of the dominant eye, and the near eye was adjusted to the left eye. I got advice that I should see with both eyes instead of one eye.
