Sundai Preparatory School | 2021/01/18

I took my college entrance exam more than 35 years ago, and I failed. I went to Sundai Preparatory School and was impressed by the curriculum. The content focused on getting points efficiently in the entrance examination, and I needed to study only one thin textbook. No textbooks are needed. However, in addition to such classes, I could learn the joy of life and the depth of literature in reading long English sentences and wanted to become a university student and have various experiences. I also found the fun of history in ancient writing. In 1930, Shundai put up an advertisement saying, "We will eliminate the bad stuffing principle of our academia, strive exclusively to understand the basic principles, and give the genius of operation, thereby fostering reasoning and judgment." I didn't know that at the time, but I realized once again that I had just received such an education. -Text and illustration by Ted Sakaki
